Celebrate a birthday party but “The Birthday-man” is not there.
“Where is He?”
One day, I
went to my boy student party. The house was decorated by all blue trinkets. The
blue cake was beautifully seen on the table which some blue balloons on its
corner. Back of that, A boy was sitting with a big smile to show the guest that
today was a very special day. From his face, I can see the happiness. When we
sang a birthday song, He really persuaded us to celebrate this day together. In “making a wish time”, we all together
wished the best of Him. We engage each person in that party.
This event
reminds me again what I am doing in this Christmas season. When it comes, we
usually decorate our rooms, make some delicious food, drink, or cake. We also
use our best, new suits to celebrate it. At that time, when we are in the room party,
the light is off and we say, ”Make a wish! Make a wish”. Then, the candle is on
but The Birthday Man is not there. We glance each other as asking question, “Where
is He”. We are looking to find Him by going around the room to every corner of
it. We wait for some hour until we get tired. At the end, we decide to go home
and run our own life. We have to go back to our life routine and we already
forget about “The Birthday Man”.
This is what
happens in the Christian life like us. Christmas is all about a year routine
agenda. We are getting tired in preparing the room, food, suit and everything.
At the end, we find that the center of this celebration is No one. He is gone.
We act like nothing happen. I think many times about it everytime Christmas
season comes. Actually, the question is not, “Where is He”. It’s supposed to
be, “Where are we?”. It is clearly said
from Matthew 1 : 23 “See the virgin will become pregnant and give the birth to
a son. And, they will name Him IMMANUEl”. Immanuel means God be with us. So, If
He is with us, who is gone? We or He?.
Christmas is
not just about material things, like food, suits or others thing. But it is the
day to remind us about the born of the Redeemer, The savior of the world. He
came to save the unworthy person like us so that we can have an eternal
relation with The Lord. We can conclude that In this celebration, we are the
people who are gone at the party.
The places where we have gone are
:
1. We
are in a year routine agenda
We already sign the dates in our agenda
to prepare this Christmas. We don’t realize until all of this agenda bind our
eyes so that we can’t see a Man with a Crown of throne on His head is looking
at us to stop. This routine already stole our sight of this Birthday Man. We
don’t know the meaning of why He came. He emptied himself to come but what we
want to is all about celebration and happiness. We forget about the suffering (Fil 2 : 7)
2. We
are in our own happiness perspective
God don’t forbid any person for being
happy in the Christmas time. We do have to be happy for we are now saved. Sometimes, the points of our gratitude are
about money, education, or success. The center is all about us. The perspective
of our happiness is we get something what we want. The Lord did it differently.
Every person wants to have a wealthy life. But Christ emptied Himself until
gave himself to us. He wanted to die so that we can be saved. He lost what
human wants so much which is Life.
Therefore in this Christmas season may
we take a day to rethink about the meaning of the coming of The Lord so that we
can engage together in this celebration. This is what I feel when celebrate my boy
students’ birthday. I pray that we can grow more be Like Christ. Amen …..
